Five Mystical Songs - Mvt. 4
Five Mystical Songs - Mvt. 4
Five Mystical Songs, Movement 4 is a landmark arrangement for baritone solo, SATB choir, and wind ensemble, drawn from Ralph Vaughan Williams' beloved song cycle setting the mystical poetry of George Herbert. This movement — one of the most expressive and spiritually resonant in the cycle — is given new life in this wind ensemble setting, preserving the soaring vocal lines and rich harmonic language that have made the original a cornerstone of the choral repertoire.
Commissioned by the Oklahoma State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Joseph P. Missal, this arrangement by Andrew Anderson is crafted with care for both the ensemble and the soloists, balancing the intimate character of the vocal writing with the full expressive power of the wind band.
