Emerging

This work is based on a recording of a traditional Kiowa Round Dance from the Library of Congress, which I transcribed in detail. Drawing on every element of the recording—from the drums and singing to spontaneous shouts—I transformed the source material into a new musical language. Emerging reimagines these sounds through the lens of a string quartet, using rhythmic structures and melodic fragments from the transcription to shape a distinctive and evolving sonic palette.
