Awakening

Awakening

Hans Engelmann (1872–1914) was a German composer celebrated for his graceful, melodic piano works — none more beloved than Melody of Love. His Song Without Words series captures that same warmth and lyricism, and Awakening, Op. 620, No. 2 is a shining example: a gentle, expressive piece that unfolds like the first light of morning.

Arranged for brass quintet by Travis Freshner, this transcription preserves the song's tender, singing quality while giving each voice in the ensemble a chance to shine. The rich blend of two trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba brings a new warmth and depth to Engelmann's intimate original, making it an ideal choice for chamber recitals, wedding ceremonies, or any occasion calling for refined, heartfelt music.
