Bach was famous for writing them, for example including one in his first French Suite (BWV 812). They're usually in a compound meter like 3\/8 or, as in my work's case, 6\/8, and are often found at the end of a multi-movement work. \"Gigue in Bb\" started out as the 4th movement of a larger suite, but it outgrew the other three movements and took on a life of its own.
